| Safety advice. | |
The use of a restraining device is ESSENTIAL: it will prevent ejection, stop your child from being thrown forward and apply its restraining force to the most resistant parts of your child's body.
• Always strap your in child, no matter how long or short the journey, even if it's just for 200 metres (many accidents resulting in child fatalities happen on journeys of less than 2 miles).
• Fit the car seat correctly in your car: Read the advice and follow the instructions carefully.
• Never leave your child alone and unsupervised in a vehicle.
• Use a restraining device suitable for the size of your child. It must be adapted to the size and weight of your child to offer him maximum protection.
• Change the car seat when your child's weight is equal to or greater than the weight recommended on the seat, or if your child is too cramped.
• Always change your car seat if it has been involved in an impact.
• Never install your seat facing backward in the front seat of a car fitted with an airbag without first disabling the airbag.
• Maintain the rear-facing position of travel for as long as possible. Do not let your child travel facing forward if he weighs less than 9kg.
• Every time you install the seat, check that the straps are tightened properly.

• Ensure that your baby has been burped and hold him in your arms for a good 15 minutes before you place him on his back in the carrycot car bed.
• Never leave your child alone in an unventilated car to take his nap, even if the car is in the shade.
• Stop every 2 hours, or whenever your baby cries or becomes upset.
• Let the car cool down slowly in the shade (for at least 15 minutes) and allow your baby to get some fresh air.
• Avoid metal buckles that could become hot and burn your child if exposed to sunlight for a long time.
• For maximum safety, place the buckle at the level of the pelvis and not at the level of the abdomen.
• Take care to keep your child hydrated and uncovered, particularly in high temperatures. He needs 4 to 5 times more water than an adult, so water (20 to 30ml) should be offered at regular half-hourly intervals, especially if your child is not yet old enough to tell you that he is thirsty.
• If it is hot, refresh your child regularly with a cool cloth or glove.
• Always install a fixed or roller sun shield on your rear or side windows.
• Never leave heavy objects on the rear shelf in the car; they could injure your child if you were to brake heavily.
• Consider taking toys in the car, especially if the journey is a long one!
| Purchasing advice. | |
It is easy to become confused when faced with all the models available in the shops.
• Choose an approved model.
Be sure to buy a model approved in accordance with European regulation R 44. An ECE R44/04 (or ECE R44/03) logo must be shown on the packaging, or on the product (label, instructions, etc). If the model you choose is not approved, check the list of vehicles provided to see if yours is there.
• Choose a seat that is suitable for the weight of your child.
To choose the correct car seat for your child, you must above all know his weight. The restraining device should be suitable for the size of your child in order to support his body correctly, thereby offering him maximum protection.
• Check that it can be correctly installed in your car.
Ask to try fitting it in your vehicle first. This will allow you to:
- Check that the seatbelts are long enough to install your seat properly
- See how to fit your seat correctly in a vehicle
• Comfort.
Try putting your child into the seat. He should be comfortable and in a good position. When choosing between seats of equal effectiveness, take the one that is the most comfortable (quality of material, padding etc.). Think of the thousands of miles your child will spend in his chair.
| How to choose a comfortable car seat? | |
• The seating angle (in particular for groups 0+ for children from birth to around 12 months):
Should not be too curved. The younger the child, the less developed his muscles and the harder it is for him to remain in a sitting position. A semi-prone position respects your child's size, whilst helping him to develop. However, be sure not to leave him in this position for more than an hour and a half each day.
• The angle of incline offered by seats (in particular for group 1 for children from 9 to 18kg):
At this age, children are much more developed, and can stay sitting for longer. However, periods of sleep are still frequent, especially on long journeys, and the seat must offer one of the most comfortable positions.
Subsequently, as your child grows, it is harder to provide a reclined position, simply due to safety reasons linked to the car's capacity. This is why booster cushions (group 2/3 seats made for children from 3 to around 10 years) often have a reduced reclining angle compared to seats from group 1. Their reclining angle is actually limited by the vehicle's rear seat.
• Space reserved for your child:
Essential for ensuring that your child feels at ease.
| How to travel in the car in the first months? | |
Use a carrycot or car seat, to encourage the natural development, mobility and rhythm of your newborn baby.
In the first months, your baby's muscles are not yet sufficiently developed to allow him to travel in a sitting position. In addition, he sleeps a great deal (for more than 70% of his time). This large amount of sleep assists the development of the brain and body.
As a result, you should allow him to sleep undisturbed and let him find his own rhythm. Offer him sleep of the best quality by laying him on his back: the ideal position for him.
The carrycot is naturally suited to your newborn baby.
It allows him to lie comfortably on his back, thereby preserving the quality of his sleep. Practical: you can easily carry it from your house to your car without disturbing your baby. Completely safe: lets your baby travel in complete comfort without being woken up. A really snug and spacious little bed, providing your baby with infinite well-being and freedom of movement.
After 3 months, your baby has grown and his muscles have strengthened. He can hold his head upright, but his back is still weak. The car seat is therefore perfect for encouraging his development.
The car seat provides a semi-seated position as well as good back support to allow your baby to begin to discover his environment.
Just like you, your baby should not stay still for too long. When you go on a long car journey, we recommend that you stop for 15 minutes every two hours to loosen up and stretch your legs. The same goes for your child. It's even more important for children under the age of 6 months, since their bodies have not yet matured.
| Why purchase a car seat with a base? | |
The base enhances safety and the ease of installation of the car seat in the vehicle. Once clipped onto the base, the car seat is always positioned correctly. In one simple move, you can adjust the belt and be ready to travel in complete safety.
| Why purchase a group 0+/1 car seat? | |
At 6 months, your baby may already be too big to still be carried in a carrycot or car seat. He must, however, continue to travel in a rear-facing position until he weighs at least 9kg (around 1 year).
This is why seats from group 0+/1 are offered: they allow your baby to continue travelling in a rear-facing position until he weighs 9kg, and then to travel facing forward when the time comes.
| Why choose an Isofix seat? | |
Isofix has been approved with regulation 44 since 26 February 2004.
Specially designed for children, the Isofix system provides reinforced safety from the moment it is fitted in your car as well as in the event of an impact.
This fitting system no longer requires the use of a seatbelt for fitting the seat in your car. The seat can simply be clipped to the back of the vehicle's rear seat. The risks of making a mistake when fitting the seat are minimised, thanks to the visual indicators which confirm that the seat is fitted correctly.
All the advantages of this system...
-Better restraint in the event of an impact, as the seat is completely stable on the vehicle's rear seat.
-Quick and easy installation.
-Risks of making a mistake when fitting the seat are reduced, which means greater safety.
What to do if my vehicle is not fitted with the Isofix system?
Check carefully that the Isofix seat you wish to purchase can also be fitted using the vehicle seatbelt.
